A Pristine Resort Home In Mequon Horse Country

Do you like that private-resort kind of look-and-feel for a family getaway? Maybe you prefer a place where you could easily entertain 100 people or more and have plenty of room to spare? How about your own personal fully-stocked one-acre lake? Perhaps you like a golf-course quality manicured lawn amidst rolling countryside? Or maybe you`re a fan of finely sculpted and crafted woodwork? How about a naturally chlorinated and heated salt-water pool carved into the landscape in the backyard like it`s been there for decades? Or what about the combination both beautiful sunrise and sunset exposure with more natural lighting on either side of a home than you could ask for? Truth be told, this is not a resort, but just a gorgeous residence that has a little bit of everything. It has all the feature, function, character, class and craftsmanship of area homes priced at two or three times the asking price.

Let`s back up for a little tour of the property. We start by winding down the elongated driveway past the rolling hills and fairway-like grass. Off to the right is the aerated and professionally lighted private lake with an adjacent pond and mini waterfall. This miniature lake comes complete with a scaled-down version of a charming north woods cedar cabin, fully furnished with a natural stone masonry fireplace. Take a short walk across the property from the main home to the guest cabin and it feels like you`re up in Vilas County.

The owners estimate that about half of the fifteen-acre property is cultivated with either professional landscaping or lawn panels, all of which is maintained by a programmable irrigation system. The balance of the property is cutout with wide trails and walkways for the nature lover or horseback rider. As we circle around to the backyard you`ll find the entire extended pool area is surrounded by specimen type trees and guarded by a decorative wrought iron fence. There are carefully placed inlaid bluestone walkways and herringbone pattern patio areas situated throughout the backyard. Stroll over and relax next to the chisel-edged pool and listen to the peaceful waterfall flow into it, or hideaway in the four-season cedar-wood Vixen Hill gazebo. Walking back toward the main house there are two larger circular patio areas, one is outside of the breakfast room behind the garage and the other is a multi-tiered section next to the rose garden. All of the color combinations of the pool and gazebo areas complement those around the house itself. The flower sequences are also set up, naturally, to ensure an array of year-round color. Everything here looks like it`s been in place for ages. The combination of natural rock formations around the built-in pool, surrounded by carefully placed shrubs and flower beds around the yard are impeccable.

The quality and appeal certainly doesn`t end here as we finally get to see the interior. You only need to walk into the foyer to begin to get a feel for the depth of the craftsmanship. The foyer features black walnut flooring with ebony tile inserts. At first glance the walls appear to be papered, but they`re actually finished in hand-woven silk fabric, carefully cut, trimmed and seamed around the doorways, floorboards and crown moldings. Complete with foam backing, it`s an elegant touch. There`s a quaint powder room off of the foyer that melds nicely into the entranceway. A coffered ceiling with cove lighting helps finish off the foyer and get us on our way.

Working around to the left we pass through the first of many hand-carved arched doorways and into the study. Pictures definitely do not do justice to this room. This Birger Juell designed library features a natural fireplace with a black walnut single-piece mantel and hand-carved frieze with matching columns. It also includes hand-scraped paneling and built-in bookshelves with accent lighting, a coffered wood ceiling and elliptical arched entry-ways. Incredible. The two-way fireplace is designed so you can sit on this side of it in the morning and take in the sunrise. Virtually all of the shades and blinds in the home are electronically controlled for added convenience.

The next room to the left is the formal dining room. This is a generous room featuring built-in matching china cabinets in all four corners of the room. Again, the craftsmanship that went into this curved cabinetry is phenomenal. Passing through toward the kitchen, we find a little cove area that serves as a wet bar. It includes stained glass cabinet doors and an arched wood-paneled ceiling. A great touch.

If you appreciate being drenched in natural sunlight, then you`ll love the kitchen and breakfast room. The kitchen features marble floors with Italian tile inserts. It has Viking appliances, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a country style farmer`s sink with Phylrich faucets. It comes with granite countertops, a vegetable sink on the island with raised bar seating and plenty of Christopher Peacock cabinet space. What an awesome touch in the most contemporary room in the house.

Adjacent to the kitchen you will find one of the more unique breakfast rooms around. This gigantic room has a silo-styled fitted cherry ceiling and surrounding windows that highlight the exquisite landscaping of the backyard. You need a table-for-twelve in this room just to balance out the space. There`s also a good sized butler`s pantry directly off the back of the kitchen and the laundry room, which comes complete with ice maker and spare dishwasher, is right across the hall.

The formal living room is next and introduces a French country look. The entire west wall is lined with arched French doors. This room also features the opposite side of the two-way fireplace, along with an open-beamed ceiling and custom skylights.

The first floor master bedroom is next on the tour featuring more customized trim work and pearlescent paint, along with massive his and her closets. The view from the master bath, like every room on the west side of the house, highlights the pool and landscaping beauty of the backyard. This bath also features heated tile flooring, an oversized shower, granite countertops, towel warmers and a huge skylight. Another interesting feature on this end of the home is the dressing room between the bath and her closet. It`s a nice cozy room that affords plenty of privacy. Next to the master bedroom is a charming guest room, perfect for waking up to the morning sunrise. It includes a full bath as well. All of the bathrooms four-full and four-half are loaded with superb detail and elegant features. There are two more large bedrooms and another full bath on the second floor as well.

The expansive basement is split in half between an unfinished and finished section. The unfinished section is perfect for storage, a play area or workout room perhaps. The finished section includes a half-bath, wet bar, sitting area with fireplace, recreation area with room for a big screen TV, and a private wine cellar/tasting room featuring custom designed walls and ceiling for the perfect little getaway spot.

Some of the other features of the home include: a commercial grade HVAC system; multi-zoned radiant heat for all of the tile floorings on the first level; one-hundred-year-old concrete tiles on the roof with complementary copper dormers, gutters and downspouts; programmable interior sequence lighting; a four-car garage with real wood doors and custom built cabinetry, hot-and-cold running water and built-in floor drains; one and one-half inch doors, arched entryways and black walnut trim throughout; and much more. The house was originally built in 1989 but has been modified, upgraded and enhanced several times by the current owners over the years. It is currently being listed by First Weber Realtors.

This home really has all of the personality, character and workmanship you could ever ask for without losing the warmth of a cozy place for the family. There are not enough exclamatory words to describe this property. In simple terms, it is one of the most pleasurable homes and properties available today. A private luxury resort, entertainment facility, and fun family home, all wrapped into one package.
