FEBRUARY 2011 Stillness is a rare commodity. It has no purchase value. Stillness is the lake between sunset and twilight when not a ripple disturbs the last gold, pink and lavender reflections of a rapidly disappearing ball of flame. Stillness is the outer trail at the dawn of a new day when not a twig crackles, when the nigh-roaming forest animals, large and small, have blended into a watchful immobility. Stillness is the fragrance of a rosebud waiting to be released. READ MORE

JANUARY 2011 Christmas is love in action, a love so powerful that it overrides anything of an opposite nature. For that reason, atheists and non-believers should be urged to give up hate and resentment of the year's loveliest season because they are battling unsuccessfully the greatest Force in the world. Forget about prayer on public occasions. Forget about creches on public property. Forget about the authenticity of a Jewish rabbi who established a religion that has existed for over 2,000 years.   DECEMBER 2010 Christmas is love in action, a love so powerful that it overrides anything of an opposite nature. For that reason, atheists and non-believers should be urged to give up hate and resentment of the year's loveliest season because they are battling unsuccessfully the greatest Force in the world. Forget about prayer on public occasions. Forget about créches on public property. READ MORE

NOVEMBER 2010 The greatest moratorium this country has ever known is about to move from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific, from the Gulf to the Canadian border. It defies the blandishments of politicians to handle it, the subtle aplomb of newsmen to slant its purpose. It is a moratorium of the people and by the people. It has nothing to do with protestations or dissent or demands. It knows no racism, no hate, no prejudice. It recognizes no past and no future. READ MORE

OCTOBER 2010 Have you ever been faced with a problem that resulted for you in unfair criticism and misunderstanding from those you loved? Have you ever tried to rise above it and yet been bowed down with a sense of despair that the very ones in whom you had faith had proved the first to turn against you? If you find yourself in such a situation, you will be able to stabilize your thinking and find peace only when you turn radically to God and leave the matter entirely in His hands. READ MORE

SEPTEMBER 2010 Are you discouraged over world affairs? Are you concerned about the crime wave that is taking its toll on the helpless elderly? Are you dismayed by a teenage callousness that robs and rapes and even kills? It is of no avail to wallow in despair. Nor is there help in cynicism. Cynicism is as great a sin as is complacency because neither accomplishes any good. READ MORE

AUGUST 2010 Regardless of one's interpretation of the Bible, at all times but particularly in times of duress, there are Bible verses that bring comfort. One such verse is found in Psalm 121, `I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. We have no need to move out of our chairs to do this. We need merely close our eyes for a second and let our thoughts lift themselves. You may hesitate to believe that is a possibility, but take my word for it. READ MORE

JULY 2010 One of the most beautiful figures of speech in the Bible, as well as one of the most poignant of laments, is found in the twenty-third chapter of Matthew, verse 37: `O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathered her chickens under her wings, and ye would not. The Nazarene carpenter loved Jerusalem. READ MORE

JUNE 2010 In a world growing seemingly more complicated from one day to the next, should we not as individuals develop so close an affiliation with the greatest motivating force the world will ever know that some of that God-power becomes a practical force in our affairs? If necessary, one can live rightly without church affiliation. Without God affiliation, however, is there any point at all to living? Is not God non-denominational? Is He not unconcerned with creed or color? READ MORE

MAY 2010 The skies have been heavy all day with the weight of dark, moody clouds. The air is dense with shifting fog. The window panes are dripping with raindrops unschooled in anything but slipping and sliding aimlessly along whatever surface they can find. It would seem an entire universe is reflecting the uncertainty of world affairs. READ MORE

APRIL 2010 When God speaks, He wastes no time in idle comment. He is dynamic, brief and to the point. He knows without question that He is the sole power of the universe, and He speaks with authority. When the patriarchs were in any kind of trouble, they didn't waste time in bemoaning their lot, in blame of someone else, in resentment. They turned normally and naturally to God as their father who loved them and would help them. READ MORE

MARCH 2010 One of the most enervating experiences an individual can have is to become a middle-of-the-roader. Emotionally it is devastating because it removes all the spice from life. Intellectually it eventually results in apathetic permissiveness, a gradual dulling of the senses to the importance of vital issues. It demands a mental straddling that can become physically uncomfortable. Middle-of-the roaders are generally designated as good. READ MORE
